Is it true I cant use % on the height of a splitter / splitter panel?

its nested inside of a table, so It can grow and collapse with content etc.. But I don't know how long my page is....

Hi,

No. Generally you should not use % unless it is placed an element with fixed size. In your case when it is inside the table and the table's size is not known, the behavior of the splitter (or any % height element) would be very unpredictable because the container's size relies on the content's size and the content's size relies on the container's size. That produces an infinite loop with no clear exit.
