ProgressBar ExtraData not updating after moving app to test server Options

In development environment (Visual Studio 2008) the ProgressBar updates work perfectly, updating a text box with status messages.

But after copying code to a test server, I find that although the scroll bar moves along properly the updates to the text box are not visible (tried various versions of IE 9, 10 and 11).

Any ideas of things to check?
