I am currently in a rather difficult situation. I have inherited a project from another company who have gone under. The project I am working on uses EO PDF to generate PDF documents from HTML pages. Although the other company purchased a license, I no longer have access to that license (just the license key).

Recently an error started occurring when trying to create a PDF file:
Quote:
[HtmlToPdfException: Failed to initialize conversion.]
EO.Pdf.HtmlToPdfException.b(Exception A_0) +79
EO.Pdf.Internal.j2.d() +935
EO.Pdf.HtmlToPdf.a(j2 A_0) +11
EO.Pdf.HtmlToPdf.ConvertHtml(String html, PdfDocument doc) +75
ECAPSWA.TSPDFReport.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) +2886
System.EventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, EventArgs e) +0
System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) +91
System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() +74
System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +2207

After some searching, I thought an upgrade might solve the problem so I downloaded the latest version and deployed that. A new error about the license key not being valid appeared so I reverted my changes and deployed the old EO.PDF.dll file. However, I know get the following error:

Quote:

[HtmlToPdfException: Can not find file EO.Pdf.Html.dll, this file is needed to perform HTML to PDF conversion.]
EO.Pdf.HtmlToPdfException.b(Exception A_0) +79
EO.Pdf.Internal.j2.d() +935
EO.Pdf.HtmlToPdf.a(j2 A_0) +11
EO.Pdf.HtmlToPdf.ConvertHtml(String html, PdfDocument doc) +75
ECAPSWA.TSPDFReport.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) +2886
System.EventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, EventArgs e) +0
System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) +91
System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() +74
System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +2207

My next step is to install the service found at http://www.essentialobjects.com/ViewDoc.aspx?book=4&t=htmltopdf/eopdfsp.html but I assume I need the same version as I am currently using: 3.0.40.2. How would I get the older version?

Can you assist with any of the above issues? The client is giving a presentation in about 3 hours so I need to try and resolve this soon.

After a little digging it appears that none of the issue outlined above are causing the problem. The problem is caused by this line of code:
Quote:

HtmlToPdf.ConvertHtml(theHTML, doc)

Which is converting this HTML:
Quote:
<h3 align="left">Appreciating your report</h3><br /><b>Receiving Feedback:</b> One of the hallmarks of great leaders is that they ask for feedback and view it as a window for continued growth. For many people, however, receiving feedback from people you work with on a daily basis can create anxiety. It is important to recognize that this is not a threatening situation, but a key opportunity for learning and development. The perceptions of your skills and abilities can be quite diverse, which may surprise or even shock you.<br /><br />
It is important to try to step back as you digest this information. Even if your report contains comments about behaviours that don’t match your intentions, remember, perception is reality. You are viewed by your actions, not your intentions, so your report does represent the way others see you.<br /><br /><b>Your Report:</b><br /><br />
The second Tab shows the complete ratings of each competency without any comments. You will be able to see your ratings and that of your manager. The average does <b>not</b> include your score. Do not try and work out who gave you which score. The purpose of a report is to acknowledge the score that you got and try to step back as you digest the information.<br /><br />
The next tab shows your highest and lowest rated items. It gives you a chance to review your strengths so that you can capitalize on them and also to identify those areas of development.<br /><br />
The next Tab exposes the comments that were made by the raters. They will help you understand why you may be rated high or low on a specific behavior.<br /><br /><b>Suggested steps to be taken:</b><br /><br />
1. Thank all the participants for their input and let them know where you intend to improve<br />
2. Discuss the results with your coach or manager<br />
3. Work on a Personal Development Plan to improve those areas that need attention.<br /><br /><b>Personal Development Plan:</b> It is important to embark on your own personal development planning process so as to gain optimal benefit from the Process. Consider such activities as attending relevant training, engaging a personal coach, identifying selected books to read, tapes, videos, working more closely with your manager, practicing new behaviours, requesting more ongoing feedback.<br /><br /><i><b>All the best in your journey of awareness and development</b></i>

Are there any obvious problems with the HTML that I need to look at?

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us. You won't be able to use a license from another company nor from an older version. Our product is licensed by developer and the license covers a one year free upgrade period and a one year free tech support period. In your case you have a rather older version so your free tech support period has already expired. Also because the product is licensed by developer, you need your own license in order to continue using this product.

We will PM you the download location of the version that you were using.

Thanks!

Wouldn't the license transfer to me when I took over the project?

Hi,

We do not officially allow license transfer because of the support and distribution issue. For support issue, even though officially offer free support for only one year, usually we don't mind even if you have questions after one year. However the situation would be totally different when the license is transferred to a new developer because that could potentially double our support work. Another issue is distribution issue, when a developer purchases a license, develops a project for an end user and distributes that project to the end user, they end user may thought the license has been transferred to him (it is not uncommon that the end user has actually been billed and paid for the license) but the original developer still continue to use the license. To avoid all these issues, we do not officially allow license transfer.

We do understand sometimes project changes hand due to personal changes or company take over. In that case we neither endorse the transfer, nor pursue any action against the transfer.

Thanks!
