Hi, and thank you for a great product!
We run a service where users of our product can merge all their documents (PDF, Word documents, spreadsheets, etc.) into a single PDF. This works fine most of the time, but we have just stumbled over a case where one of our users have uploaded a so called Portfolio PDF.
When this file is merged with the other documents owned by this users, a page containing the following text will act as a placeholder for the contents of the Portfolio PDF: "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later."
Upon opening the Portfolio PDF by itself, the content is displayed as a presentation - sort of a Powerpoint presentation, with animations and navigation buttons. It is clear to us that this makes it difficult to merge this kind of document with the other ones.
The question then: is there is a way to detect that a PDF is of the "portfolio type"? This would make us able to inform the user of the files needed to be opened individually.

Hi,
A PDF portfolio is a pretty much a collection of individual PDF files that packed together in zip format, but still share the same ".pdf" file extension. However it seems Adobe has kept this feature to itself and did not publish any standard/file format specification about it. If it's OK for you, you can email one of such sample file to us and we will see if we can find some simple ways for you to detect, or if we can find the related standard, we might be able to implement it for you. However unless its public standard, we may not be allowed to implement it as the format might be considered as proprietary technology from Adobe. We will PM you as to where to send the test file.
Thanks!
