Is there a definitive list of which EO products require .NET 2.0 and which work in .NET 1.1? I have a valid license for EO products and several controls were added to my VS 2003 toolbox but I know that the PDF creator only works in .NET 2.0 and I just tried to add the MaskedEdit control to a .NET 1.1 application and it returned an error saying "Unable to initialize external designer module, please check the installation and verify that EO.Web.dll in your bin folder is the same as the intalled one." The MaskedEdit control is placed on the form but when I try to access its properties, I get an error saying "EO.Web is not correctly installed. Please run the installer again". I'm using the MessageBox control and a few others successfully so what's the problem with the installation?

Hi,

All EO products now requires .NET 2.0 and above. We no longer support .NET 1.1.

Your particular error doesn't seem to have anything to do with .NET version though. It is pretty much exactly as the error message says: the version installed on your machine is not the same as the one your project use. So change either one to match the other one should fix the problem for you.

Thanks!

Given that I can't simply move to .NET 2.0, which version should I be using to continue supporting my client who is still using .NET 1.1? I have both version 8 and 9, which one should I reinstall?

Thanks

I've removed and reinstalled using EOWeb_80_Setup.exe. I've removed and recreated the developer licence, have recreated the redistributable licence but my ASP.NET 1.1 application still says that all EO.Web controls are "Unable to initialize external designer module, please check the installation and verify that EO.Web.dll in your bin folder is the same as the intalled one."

The version of EO.Web.dll in my appliction's bin folder is 8.0.60.1 which is the same as the installed version in C:\Program Files\Essential Objects\EO.WebControls 8.0\Net11 so what do I do next? I've embedded the EO.Web controls into my application and am expected to implement it for my client within the next few days and am not prepared to do so while this error exists.

While you say you no longer support ASP.NET 1.1, surely applications written against version 8.0.60.1 should still work in a .NET 1.1 environment?

Thanks and best regards

Hi,

I can not think of any reason why you would receive this error when the file in your installation folder and the file in your bin directory are the same. You may want to try with a blank new application, or try to load our sample project and see if the same problem occurs.

We stopped supporting .NET 1.1 from EO.Web Controls 2011 (9.0). EO.Web Controls 2010 (8.0, your version) still supports .NET 1.1. So that version should work for you.

Thanks!

Hi,

I went back through all the possible locations for eo.web.dll and found several versions numbered 8.0.40.1 in various temporary folders (C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET Files etc.) so I deleted them. What appeared to be happening, even though I replaced the version in my application's bin directory, the version in the Temporary ASP.NET Files folder was over-riding the newer version whenever I opened the application in VS2003. Deleting those files and restarting VS2003 seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks for your help with this. Best regards
