I'd like to be able to inform the user if something goes wrong during content generation. Could e.DynamicDownload pass a return code from Generate Content, or could I pass a non-string object argument (for example, a form instance) to the content generator

Hi,

Unfortunately no. You have to encode your value into strings in order to pass the value to DynamicDownload.
